Tasted through some wines from Argyle yesterday. The great Oregon winery (since 1987). Because I am at a steakhouse that serves mostly California Cabs and American Pinot Noirs I forget just how good Argyle is at making sparkling wine. Right up there with the best American-made sparklers! Their '06 Reserve Pinot was showing well on this day too. If you have not had Argyle wines you really should check them out. The Pinots are a no-brainer. That '03 vintage Brut was so delicious. QPR (quality to price ratio) is the best! In '04 Mom, Mr Ho & I stopped into their busy tasting room on Hwy 99W, south of Portland in Dundee. The girls at the counter said they would see who they could get to show us around. This guy walks out a few minutes later and just starts talking about Argyle. It took me a few minutes to realize that it was the Man himself, Rollin Soles! The nicest guy with a wicked sense of humor.
That is him with a 5L of 1992, that's right, 1992 Chardonnay, pouring a glass for Craig, Head Sommelier of Alinea in Chicago. If you think Oregon Chards can't age you should have been there. This was at one of those spectacularly fun white-party-tent dinners at Oregon Pinot Camp 2005.
Nothing at all to do with anything...but fun. Check out these creative wine labels that I found via Dr Vino's blog.
