Bear Republic...Winery Tuesdays...No Magic for DG

The Twins Carlos Gomez raced home with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning ...

Paul stood up.  Dave's head hit the bar in despair.
A monumental collapse in the last month by his beloved Tigers.
We headed the 3 blocks over to Ramey's Haydon Red Wine Facility to do the evening pumpovers.

Tracy from J Vineyards stopped in before the big Twins rally, a 2-run homer from Orlando Cabrera in the 7th inning gave the Twins a 4-3 lead. We talked BBQ, Texas BBQ! Salt Lick BBQ is a favorite of his, although he seems to be fairly good on the grill himself. Explaining all the nuances of great grilling.
J Vineyards has some Chardonnay coming in Saturday, then Tracy gets some well earned days off as their harvest comes to a close. They started in mid-August. Ramey's 1st Chard came on September 2nd.  They are sparkling wine specialists but have some tasty Pinots and Chardonnays too. Do the math. Pinot and Chard are the 2 main grapes in Sparkling Wine.
I was sitting next to Eric, an intern from Ferrari-Carano. They are also finishing up the whites soon. Remember, the F-C reds are now made at PreVail (read the Harvest Basket blog). He is not new to the wine scene, he works on his own smaller winery project. I missed the name probably due to Tigers' Magglio Ordonez's 8th inning homer that tied it 4-4.
The Tigers and Twins both denied in the 10th!  Brandon Inge's 2-out double scored what we thought would be the winning run. The Twins answered in the bottom of the frame, but the eventual hero, Twins' Alexi Casillas, was thrown out at the plate to end that inning!
It was at about that time I met Rachael, sales & marketing,  and Lyndsey, the enologist, from Williams-Selyem. I am trying to make time to help with their Wine Club weekend pickup in November. Our enologist was an intern at this famous Pinot house.
Dave's old buddy, the winemaker from Everett Ridge,  seemed to distract him from the drama, but no way...he knew the exact count, outs, ERA, and batting averages of everyone involved.
Didn't really get to speak much with the 3 red-wine-stained interns from Dry Creek Vineyard (obviously from down under) or Chuck from B.R.Cohn, although as you might remember I have fond memories of old Moose
The 163rd game of a 162-game season goes even longer. The 1st ever extra-inning Tie-Breaker in American League History. The Tigers blew a bases-loaded 12th inning opportunity and then the Gomez heroics!
It was an exciting game!
Tuesdays are wine industry day at the Bear Republic.
Just 90 feet off the Healdsburg Plaza. An unexpected side-trip into the world of wine. The real folks that sweat and toil - blowing off some steam at the end of a hard day's work (or just taking a break). Sitting elbow to elbow with me - the guy with the red wine stained jeans, beat up muck boots and the smell of sour grape pomace  on him.
Don't Worry!  The Red Wine Press is ready for tomorrow's Somerston Cabernet!

Pedregal is coming.....
